7 string guitars

My son is bent on getting a 7 string guitar, he wants to get deep bass sounds with distortion. We tried one at a local shop, and I hated it - I couldn't find my way around it, and didn't know what to do about bar chords. It messed me up to play it, and I felt it would mess him up, because he was just learning. He has a tele I gave him...and so I bought him an effects box and his own amp (so that he'll stop tooling with mine). I was wondering what others feel about these guitars. Are there any decent ones?

But yeah, as Eddie said - ignore the low B string (7th string) and you can play it as a 6 string.

The biggest disappointment I had with my seven string Kramer was the impossibility of getting a .006 string to enable a high A E A D G B E A would have sounded great Cheers
