Adding Song Identification At End Of MP3 File

While preparing to post my music online, it occurred to me that alot of other sources may play the downloaded mp3 file. Bars, clubs, college stations, etc. What do you think about adding a song identification at the END of the file such as 'That was John Doe singing John Doe's Song from the cd titled John Doe's CD which is available at John Doe's Website'. ? ? ?

dmunsie,

Hmm. Not a bad idea, but I'm better as a singer than as a DJ, it could get really embarra-sing

Cheers,

I've wondered about doing this on mp3.com files. Problem is that people like to stream files as a playlist, and they would not want your announcement every time!

I think it would depend how you did it. If it was kept short, and done well enough, I see little difference between that and a DJ on the radio. Also, think of various ways to say the same thing, so if they stream several of your songs, they don't just hear the same thing again and again.

'That was John Doe, singing 'Song' from his album 'Buy Me'' ''Song', another track from 'Buy Me', sung by John Doe' 'Another John Doe composition, 'Song', from his album 'Buy Me''

You get the idea.

Note that I didn't include John Doe's website. This is because (a) it made the comment longer and (IMHO) unwieldy and (b) because I cannot imagine anyone actually bothering to note down a web site under such circumstances. However, if your material is sited on a well known site, saying 'available from MP3.com' might not be too much, though I don't think I would put that on every song. If people like your stuff, most people know how to do a websearch.

By the way, David, I have been listening to some of your tracks on MP3, and it is terrific stuff.

Hi David, Agreed, but if done tastefully, as an overdub at the end of the song it might not be that bad, especially on songs that fade out, the voice over wouldn't really stand out that much, but in a song that ends abruptly it might seem kind of weird to hear the announcement in isolation. Plus, I wonder if this would help the piracy issue at all??
