IMHO the greatest musical missed opportunity of the 20th century was at the opening of the Kennedy Center.

They should have played 'In Memoriam JFK' (three clarinets and low voice), to recognize that Stravinsky had died just a few months earlier, and after less than three minutes, proceeded with Bernstein's *Mass*.

I don't think I said I didn't know the work. Depending on how rigorously you apply the word 'know', I might have said that, but I have heard the work before, and it is aptly described above.

He didn't need to. A century of Bach scholarship suffices.
