Hi everyone

just wondering what drum programs you all recommend for pro sounds. I have been using ACID loops a lot - very good. But I would like some other suggestions as to what you have found works well for you.

thanks for reading

There's a handy one I use called leafdrums. It's pretty basic but you can add your own drum sounds as .wav files, plus it is very cheap (trial copy downloadable, can't remember exactly where from). What I then do is go 'shopping' for live drum hits and put them in the machine. I've got about 2-300 different drums in their but I use less than ten regularly. I suppose it's given me the option to get the sound right. The best drum hits I've found are at www.funkstation.com

Good luck,

Geoff,

Here's what works for me: I write out the drum part using the staff function in cakewalk. Here is a link to a a four bar view from the solo section: http://rickrichbourg.com/goodies/naranja_drums.gif and acutally here the result here http://rickrichbourg.com/naranja.php3.

For me this has several distinct advantages, I know what the drum part is <grin>, I can then 'audition' the drum part on various midi outputs - be it an internal sound card, external rack or drum machine.

BTW, since the tympani part is actually substitued for a bass part, it was written on a separate staff and not included on the drum track.

The only draw back to pre programmed loops is that you can't edit the actual parts,( e.g. changing the hi-hat is from closed to open on the last 16th of the beat four...)

just something to think about, -Rick

Well ACID is just the app. If you play your insturment to a click track you can make custom audio loops and use ACID to manipulate them. Being a drummer I have had some pretty good success with creating rythms using my acoustic kit. I have some examples if you'd care to hear. I'm still prefecting the compression and the mixes, but I'm happy with the results thus far. The trick is just play against a click (metronome).
