The best subject for an opera I have always thought was the origina l'Great Communicator, Shakespeare.

'Awed audience at my presentation of my 'Shakespeare' opera preview titled 'Composer as Performer'in which Shakespeare is portrayed charismatically dynamic as a force of nature, on Sunday March 4th at 2 PM as part of the New Life Expo at the New Yorker Hotel, cheered with an awesome response to the dynamic 'living' immediacy, the experience of attentive anticipation and participation, the feeling of re-living with a 'living' Shakespeare his life and works, with my performing as Shakespeare in my opera 'Shakespeare.'

My single protagonist opera courses through the Shakespeare oeuvre, chronologically.

Shakespeare, dying, on his 53rd birthday, reminisces before his taking leave of us, in his own contemplations, his entire life span and his works.

His words will be known by a good number of the audience, unlike most operas, because they will be in his original English.

Soaring, widely arched vocal lines will, when appropriate, melodically transport his winged words. My framework text, representing his commentary on his life and works, is in larger intervallic leaps as contrast to the music for my lengthy quotes from his sonnets, histories, tragedies and comedies.

I composed the opera in 1980 to 1984, and have been embellishing and revising it ever since, more than 20 years. I intend to tour with it after its premiere, Shakespeare's birthday Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at 8 PM.

Exclusive of the intermission, the performance takes just under 3 hours.

The Carnegie Hall mainstage recording at the venue will be videotaped and digitally recorded for CDs in November 2002, and commercially distributed in February 2003.

The score and T-shirts of the event will be sold in the lobby at the premiere.

I think the 3 Stooges would make excellent matterial for an opera. The role of Curly would be ideal for a helden Tenor while Mo would make a great basso profundo part. Then add Larry as the Bass-Baritone and we'd be perfect. What do you think? Which present day opera singers would you cast in the roles of Mo, Larry and Curly?
