hello,

i hope this is an appropriate post for this forum. chants d' auvergne has been one of my favorite works ever since i stumbled onto 'Bailero' playing at a party one night a long time ago. i have numerous recordings of it, the moffo/stokowski recording, arleen auger's and dame kiri's versions, and another that i can't remember at this moment. i've been on a search to find another comparable work like it, and thought to post that question here. is there another body of work out there similar in style and composition to chants d' auvergne? i seem to be drawn to pieces with folk song origins, but i think what i'm after is beautiful singing and arragements like those that canteloube did. i did purchase a cd called French Songs with pieces by Chausson, Debussy and Ravel-which i like, but it just didn't capture my attention like canteloube's work did. any suggestions/opinions? many thanks in advance.

The second volume of Dawn Upshaw's Chants d'Auvergne with Kent Nagano and the Lyon Opera Orch contains Maurice Emmanuel's Chansons bourguignonnes du Pays de Beaune. They are also beautiful singing.

cheers, Mike
