Its a good effort at making a song written from a childs perspective not sound corny and cheezy. Its ok... i dont like the chorus personall...its a little to obvious and direct compared to the rest of the song...goodjob

I was really close to a melody based on v2 and v4 - these are the only two versions which have a consistent beat pattern.....it broke down after that, trying to match v1 and v3 with the more perfect beat pattern of the other two verse first lines. I was then thinking of doing a minor version of hush little baby's original melody....that's pretty much where I left it.

v2 : 1 2 3 there's a tear in mommy's eye v4: 1 2 3 Mommy's face begins to weep

maybe if v1 said Daddy Didn't call today .....that would fit with 2 & 4... then, smoke & fire filled the sky

Here is the revised version of 'Daddy Didn't Come Home Today'. I DO have a tune, it is a simple sing-song that is very melancholy and haunting. Very much AAA except for the 2 Mockingbird lines. The song can also be changed to read 'Mommy Didn't Come Home Today' w/ the mommy and daddy reversed throughout the song. The song came about remembering my own childhood and my parents coming in to sing a lullaby, read me a bedtime story, pray and tuck me in to sleep. And my heart breaks over the thought of mommies and daddies tucking their children in for bed, singing lulllabies, reading stories, praying prayers
