Did Wagner overcompensate for his short stature physique by composing for epic heroic virile super heroes?
Had Wagner been a heldentenor, would he have performed his own heldentenor protagonist roles DESPITE his physical shortness?
[That is what I intend to do with my opera, 'Shakespeare' composed in 1980 through 1084, and nuanced through all these years and set to premiere on Shakespeare's birthday, Wednesday April 23, 2003. My physique is only 5 foot 7 1/2 inches and normal weight for a marathon runner, but my heldentenor voice is huge and can be heard on Valhalla Records CDs, including my 'Wagner's Epic Heroes' [VRCD-1595] and Carnegie Hall 'Live' Ten Language Solo Debut concert [VRCD-1504] Shakespeare's life streams before him as he dies on his 53rd birthday, while reminiscing the creme de creme of his tragedies, histories, comedies, romances, and sonnets. This will be one instance at a premiere where the audience can follow the printed opera score, purchasable at the venue, and also be familiar with the oft-quoted text passages.
