Does anyone know how many volumes there were in The Sixteen's recording of the Eton Choirbook on Collins? Tower Outlet had 1, 2, 3, and 5, and I'm wondering how many more I'm going to have to hunt for.

These four albums have 24 works, but all it says about the size of the Book itself is that '98 parchment sheets, or more than a third of the original, are missing'

There were 5 volumes. They were even packaged in one 5CD set, in addition to individually.

Details of 4, if you care: http://www.medieval.org/emfaq/cds/ccl1395.htm

Don't know about the recording but The Eton Choirbook in the Musica Britannica edition runs to three volumes. I have vol. 1 in front of me and it contains 14 pieces. I can't find a list of all three volumes but I would imagine there to be 3 x 14 approx. pieces altogether. The pages of the original are 23 1/2 X 17 inches. The preface omits to say how many pages are in the book.

Hope this helps. It's fantastic music, in any event.

I've just noticed that one of the facsimiles is titled '... (see no. 56)' so probably there are at least 56 pieces.

I didn't think this was the query... it's easily answered. There were 93 pieces in the original, of which 29 are missing. There are 9 Magnificats, 1 Passion, and 54 motets. Some are incomplete. I don't believe The Sixteen's series ever endeavored to be complete.

And that might be why Collins is out of business and Hyperion isn't ...
