'City' is a cool song, dude. The only thing I would comment on is the guitar fills. Good idea, bad note choices, though. Quite honestly, they sound beginner-ish(if there is such a word). But like I said, good idea.

I hear a little White Stripes/Violent Femmes? Definitely an underground influence, though.

And I'm just rockin' ass on 'Guns'. It's almost too short, one of those songs that just as you're starting to groove to it, it ends. I love those. Nice job.

Hope this helps.

was the rhythm guitar part on this recorded and then sped up? I have experimented with this technique to make up for my novice guitar skills, but never get it to sound right (that is, to get it to sound like it was not sped up)... I think the right reverb on the sped up version would do the trick but I can't figure it out... long term of course I am working to get better at the guitar!!!

your rhythm guitar in the verse is going through one of korg multi-effects pedals with 'Aqua' effect, right? i've always found this effect interesting but never pulled off using it, but i think you may have pulled it off...

do you have a bass or are you playing bass on E string tuned down to D? (this is what I do currently!)

the lyrics are interesting, some cliches but it does tell a story... for more comments, post the lyrics...

a few people have mentioned this speed up issue. wasn't intentional so think i may need to re-record that

yeh, it is a Korg and the aqua effect! good set of ears on you! really wanted to use the effect so made sure it fitted was used with another effect off there in the other ear. can't recall the name

yeh, playing on the e, not drop tuned. just left at e and remove all non bass frequencies

Blimey Joe that is an amazing set of ears you've got there. Ever thought of becoming a musical detective?

I always amaze my wife by being able to pick out what a song is in the first half a bar, or being able to pick out who the singer or band is if I haven't heard the song before, even groups I'm barely familiar with. I'm not sure how unusual this skill is, it seems pretty normal to me.

I tried to do some research into how the PRO's tally the numbers of songs being played on the radio and so on, they seem to rely on playlists from the radio stations... I thought maybe I could use my skill to recognize songs, that would be a cushy job if it existed!

Anyway, maybe I could find some niche with this... that is, if this is truly a unique thing (which it probably isn't)

Rock on KingCreole. Oh, to be young again!

City: Great lyric. Funky groove.

Guns: Difficult topic. Rocks, but has a restless ending possibly due to no climax.

Great character in voice. Fine lyrics in general. Well done!

thanks. in all honesty i don't think this demo does the song justice. i personally think its a better song than guns but that doesn't appear to be the case with this feedback

something someone else has mentioned and something we have been trying to perfect as a band. my dream is for the end of the song to sound mental, really nuts, but its really hard for someone new at recording like me to achieve on home pc. will certainly look into it though

thank you! first positive voice post. have picked up some useful tips on how to record voice better (mys pp's and bb's pop as i'm sure you can hear)

<snipped>

KingCreole~ Try singing in front of a candle. It is mostly a matter of too much air bursting through your lips when you sing those consonants. Through practice, you will learn to regulate the airflow better... You should almost breathe in rather than out with those power consonants, though be careful to pronounce strongly or exagerate the soft consonants at the end of words at the end of phrases (ie. the 'n' in chains). Also ensure you have a screen mounted in front of your mic when recording, and allow some distance in placement.

On the other hand, try to keep the passionate popping attitude in your singing style. It has a certain quality.

If these are your first attempts at recording, even more reason to say 'well done'. You may be a natural with a pile of potential. Keep us posted on your progress.

Best regards, Amanda Emery
