I'm not sure if this instrument is fitted with a Fender nut, a Fender / Wilkinson Nut, or whatever... Each of the six string slots carries a pair of ball-bearings.
Now my 'Owner's Manual' is contradictory

I think you are talking about the modern LSR roller nut which has 2 ball bearings per string and these are OK with heavier strings. The only thing you might notice is a higher action at the 1st fret and you'd have to remove shims (if present) or wood (if not) to fix that.
