Here is a version of Summertime as performed by my son (who now uses the stage name Magnet) June 1997, when he was 4 years old. The back-up band is a jazz trio of union musicians from Seattle. He is a little embarrassed about the amateurish vocal style, but he's got good stage presence. All comments and crits will be forwarded to Magnet, who will read them with delight as he's munching his frosted flakes every morning. I'm still working on my version.

Very interesting phrasing. Pushing the boundaries of conventional syncopation. Unconstrained by orthodox ideas of tempo. John Lee Hooker has nothing on Magnet.

lol! How adorable! What courage he must have had to get up and sing. I'm impressed. Tracy

Great job, Magnet.

Can I hire him to sing my version?

Dear Magnet, you did good... kind of.. well, it's the age thing. Or is it? Anyway I like it and the clapping at the end. Let's see, '97 you were 4, so pretty soon you will be a teenager. Then you will really enjoy this. So will your friends. Tim/gmab

Thanks for the comment, Sean. It's Ben's favorite feedback so far.

The hilarious thing was watching the band try to keep up with his 'interesting phrasing' and simultaneously try to keep from beaking up with laughter.
