~ embarrassed ~ I must admit to either being geographically dislocated from the names below (other then Marvin) or to old to have heard of them without being sought after by child protective services Either way, I think I would start local and meet folks in your area that think like you. Most often there are many people in an area that can or would go the way of something completely new if they had a leader to take them there.

Get to know what your assets are and then learn to lead them. Read 'field of diamonds'.

Failing to see how I may have insulted myself, I will continue. Such negativity I've rarely witnessed. The guy said he had no resources or experience. He didn't mention'no talent 'My advice was to a guy with no money, but, seemingly, with a passion for music. It's called the barter system. He may already know more about how music is put together, and it's emotional and technical elements, than you or I. By suggesting a way for him to get his feet wet or, 'crawling before you can walk' as you would like to put it, I'm compared to a herbal doctor? Maybe you should switch to something milder. According to you, a would be producer's only hope is to go to school and hang out at clubs. This is one trade you learn by doing, not dreaming about! Next time, read your own posts before you send them! Maybe 1st level English would improve your producing skills

My production skills are top of the line and so is my advice. Dreamers go into a studio with nothing to come of it. Schooling and networking are essential. Try it and you might not find yourself on the defensive. Talent is limited to yourself or those you have contact with. I play lots of instruments and I still need to have my connections or I would be paying for trash when I need something I can't do. That would make my a stupid and ineffective producer. The man said he was lacking resources. In this business resources means access to talent and those that can sell it. If you had one inkling of what you were talking about you would know that. A producers job is to put the two together and make a product that sells. If you want to hostile with me expect nothing but the same in return. The difference between us is you obviously lack any experience and I have the experience to be real about things You are obviously one of those home studio guys that thinks your new behringer compressor makes you a talented producer because your meter don't clip as often now that you invest $79. Don't condescend to me until you know what you are talking about. Also, it would help other too if you refrain from trying to lead those that wish to get a head. They may not realize that you don't know what you are talking about though I doubt anyone would be dumb enough to think they could get to a competitive place in any business without working competitively (except that maybe you think it is possible).

Danny, your advice is no where near top of the line 'Talent is limited to yourself or those you have contact with.' Brilliant statement. And very limiting!

'The difference between us is you obviously lack any experience and I have the experience to be real about things '

Contrary to what you have suggested, you don't know it all, and, although I agree with a couple of your points, I can't see you making a great producer. (BTW I own a commercial studio, but I don't look down my nose at home studio owners)An attitude is needed which brings out the best in people. This is done by trust and a positive attitude. Maybe you'd be wise to lighten up and realize it doesn't have to be done YOUR way. Also, if you're so concerned about selling, maybe you should try sales. All I can say is, whatever works for you. End of discussion

Lets not get this thing turned around. I gave sound and logical advice and you slammed me with insults. You're the one that needs to work on attitude. As for producing, I do ZERO work for hire or studio rental. I strictly do my creations of projects and do quite well at it so maybe I am the producer you could learn a bit or two from. As for sales, Damned right I am good at it because it is the most important part of the business, without witch one might have to turn to being a commercial studio owner! - Now I think it has ended
