Just been looking through the Mr Big tab book I received this morning (thanks Alistair) instead of working and found this peach of a chord in the song Had Enough.

Apparently its an Em11

025232

Strum it or pick it - sounds immense

That is all

Yes - quite nice.

We did 'favourite chords' a while back. IIRC this one is very similar to one

Check out .... http://www.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8& frame=right&th=dfac5a... 0b7&seekm=8ggaod or search Google Groups for 'favourite chords' in uk.music.guitar

Odd, isn't it, how from time to time, certain chords just strike a, errr, um, chord in your mind. For the past few months I've been getting my attention grabbed by just about anything with a flattened fifth, & a high percentage of the songs I've been working on use them. Before that, it was 9ths. Probably just laziness on the part of my ears.

I have noticed for a couple of years that the things which appeal to me most have atypical chord progressions which, when you break them down, have interesting chromatic sequences which create nice tension. Cm, Bb9, Dm, Ab sounds odd at first, but there is a nice C/Bb/A/Ab run in there, in parallel with a C/C/D/Eb. ('Woods of Darney', Richard Thompson).

Just rambling...

As a progressive rock musician, I became interested in what everyone called "jangly" chords back in the day.

While most of the guys out there were playing simple barre chords and riffs, I found this little guy and fell in love:

Em7: x79787

That is the one chord that open a whole world of new sounds and dissonance to me.
