I just saw what may be the best commercial I have seen in years. It was for some company that was promoting something about being inspired

A man is sitting at a piano and can not feel inspired. Five phone lines are outside his window. He looks outside and blackbirds start landing on the lines. He looks outside and sees a melody spelled out and starts to play it, then locking in an entire tune.... very funny and extremely cool.

Be inspired

It's like someone once said - 'What my wife doesn't realise is that when I'm staring out the window I'm actually working.'

Wonderful!!

This may be just a legend, but I read somewhere that music notation actually was thought up this way. Seems a shepherd saw a number of birds on a wire fence and realized what could be done with some lines and circles...

As for inspiration, I'm a 'newbie of long standing' and get a lot of positive ideas from this group. Thanks to everyone here.

Not sure about this. I remember watching a documentary about music noation, the details of which escape me entirely (information as entertainement usually ends up being the latter).

But if you're interested, get someone knowledgeable to explain the history of Do-Re-Mi vs. ABC.
