The Weill violin concerto is quite a rarity. It is not in his threepenny opera style, it is in his tougher classical vein and shows just what a good composer Weill really was. It is quite a complex work, certainly not that difficult to listen to, but much more acidic so to speak than either Mahler or Strauss. It is scored for violin and 13 wind instruments which partly accounts for its rare appearences in the concert hall and last just under 30 minutes. If you have heard Weill's symphonies it will give you some idea of how Weill wrote symphonically. To be honest, take the chance to this remarkable piece since it will not come around often. It is certainly a good and under-rated work like Weill's symphonies and deserves to be layed far more than it is.
