I may not be looking in the right place here but here goes.
My bass player needs a 4 x 10 to accompany his 1 x 15' trace cab and head. I've looked on ebay a few times - no joy.
Any ideas?
I don't think we necessarily need a trace 4 x 10 just something that would serve the same purpose.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

An swr 2x10 should do the trick. 4x10's are a lot more efficient sacrificing some bottom end though. Be careful not to under power your stuff if you're using solid state. You could also do a lot worse than make your own. cb

The sort of drivers one might use - would these need to be specialist units, and would one need to include a basic x-over to roll off the low bass going to the 10's?

Take 2 eminence kappa pro 10's and run them in a sealed 40litre box and you're away. (40 litres should cover the heat dissipation) Run them fullrange or maybe with a compression driver to bring up the highs. Don't forget to use a capacitor and an Lpad to block off the bottom end for the tweeter and allow you to adjust the relative volume. If you want use a crossover, just use a capacitor on the hot input of the 2x10' cab and then run the above system as before. Don't forget the usual calculations for chosing the capacitor values. You can get away with 12mm Birch ply with a ring brace between the drivers (a square with the middle taken out) screw and glue the thing together and you're done. Under £250 probably by the time you have the corners and handles you want.
