Does anyone have a good biography of Gustav Mahler to recommend?

Save bandwidth, reply to me in person.

Donald Mitchell's set *looks* like a biography but isn't one.

Presumably LaGrange, if he ever manages to finish it (he insists on writing the English, French, and German versions himself) will be the definitive one.

For a short one, Jonathan Carr's is excellent.

Seconded. My curiosity about Mahler's life doesn't justify cracking the immense LaGrange. One of the things I like about Carr is that he doesn't pretend to being above partiality to recordings, as most scholars do.
