Hi All,

I'm new in here, so I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. My main instrument is probably bass (please don't hate me , but I do dabble in a bit of six string too.

I'm just getting back into playing more or less seriously after concentrating on the day job for the last several years. I've got a couple of guitars, the main one being a Yamaha SG200. A bit old hat these days I guess, but I do love it.

Anyway, to the point (there's a point?) I've just ordered myself a new amp and I wondered what people's opinion of it is. The amp is a Marshall MG30DFX. To me, who has been out of touch for quite a while admittedly, it looked like a fairly meaty peice of kit for the money (130 squids). What do the rest of you think? Have I bought a lemon or a future classic?

Welcome Chris

We want some names

When you say you've ordered the amp, have you tried one first ? If you have, and it sounds good to you, then you've made a good choice. Amps (like guitars ) are very personal things and if you like it, thats all that matters.

The cheaper marshalls are not going to sound like a full marshall stack, but at home levels, a full stack won't sound right either.

Ultimately you do get what you pay for, but you do have to start somewhere (and trust me, there is plenty of potential for you to buy something more expensive when the time comes).

Overall I'm sure you'll be very happy with it.

Cheers

The Marshal G30RCD was my first amp, I played a DFX and I think there isn't a lot of difference so here's what I've got to say about it. Well I suppose the price is ok, it's not an amazing amp, just good for a first amp.

Hi Chris, welcome to ukmg. I can't speak for the amp, not being much of a fan of Marshalls, but I can say your SG200 is definitely a keeper, and anything but old hat.

You need an amp for a poster?!? Does it have really loud colours? And do you find it gets a better tone used with drawing pins or blue-tack?

Fetcheratum Mi Toga.
