With appologies to those who may have read my similar post in .recordings...

a number of years ago there was a list, posted in rec.music.classical, of CD recordings containing good low frequency content. As a certified (accurate) classical music bass fanatic, I am interested in reviving this discussion among those who have the interest in and the capability to reproduce such material. I personally enjoy the sound of large, romantic-period and later organ works and I would have particular interest in any recordings containing real and significant content in the region below 30 Hz. Does anyone have the ability to measure this and/or describe or recommend certain recordings (organ or not) for their low frequency content? Synthesized classical music? Outdoor/nature?

Most any of Michael Murray's Telarc recordings I'm sure will be good candidates, as is the Telarc 1812 of course which is otherwise (to me) rather un-interesting from an interpretation/orchestration/performance standpoint. Are there other recordings of this Overture which combine both low-frequency content and a great performance and orchestration? I remember hearing an LP of this piece which I enjoyed very much because it contained a Russian choir, and cannon blasts that really cracked and echoed, rather than just thumped, but I cannot remember the recording. So any suggestions on a good 1812 recording would be welcome as well.

Glenn Gould recorded Bach's The Art of the Fugue on an organ. The low bass stops are fantastic. Sony has re-mastered the old LP's onto CD's.

If it's low frequencies you want, try any composition by Harry Partch that employs his 'Marimba Eroica.'

I heard/watched a performance of 'The Bewitched' in '74 not long after Partch died
