I heard JS Bach's piece on cable the other day. I only glimpsed the title, it was Prelude and Fugue in B flat major and also the word 'Gigue' was used in the title. I liked this and would like to get it. Where can I find this? In what collection/cd?
Thank you

'Gigue' wouldn't have been in the title. That's a later nickname.
There's a 'jig fugue' for organ, but it's not the one in the only p & f that's in Bb

Hello,
The 'Gigue' Fugue is just a fugue, and it's in G major. The number is BWV 577 ( all Bach's works are numbered like this, he wrote such a lot with similar titles it's the only way to indentify things.) SFAIK there are just the two Preludes and Fugues in B flat, they are in the Eight Short Preludes and Fugues set. The numbers are BWV 558, and 560. If you put these numbers into a search engine you will find several midi files etc so you can identify the one you want and references to CD s. There is also a JSBach newsgroup. To make the midifile sound sound like a real organ you could try the 'English Organ' soundfont on my website

There's also the Prelude, Trio, and Fugue in B-flat, BWV 545b, which is basically a transposition of the C Major Prelude and Fugue, with an arrangement of a movement from the Gamba sonata, BWV 1029, inserted between the two original movements.
Shouldn't that be 'If it *were* a harpsichord piece.... '?

The number suggests it's an organ piece, but I don't think I've ever encountered it anywhere

It's there all right, though seldom heard: I only know it through Peter Hurford's complete survey. Sometimes the notes accompanying BWV 545 make a passing reference.

Thank you all for the help. I'm having problems listening to these to see if they are it.
I can tell you it was played on the piano. And that the right hand was playing something repetative and the left hand kept playing just a few notes on the lower end of the piano before 'bouncing' over the right hand and playing a few notes on the higher keys. The left hand kept bouncing back and forth.
Hope that helps.
