I'm going to 'self publish' some CD's and due to the small numbers want to do the printing myself. For graphics production I've got an Epson Stylus CX5200 scanner/copier/printer, Paint Shop Pro 7.

So far the only CD inserts/labels/liner note blanks I've found all seem to be dedicated to a particular piece of software. Seems this would make them pricier, and also if that system becomes unavailable, you're up a creek.

Does anyone make 'generic' bulk CD labels/inserts & 2-fold or gatefold liner note blanks?

If anyone else out there does their own CD making in moderate numbers (say a couple of hundred), what do you use?

Why not just use regular photo paper and design your own cover in word or another program? Don't go paying twenty times the price just for precut

I use Neato photo-matte inserts. They are cost effective & look good. To me the time saved using them vs. regular paper is worth it.

You don't need to use the software that comes with the inserts. You can use any good publishing software, e.g., Adobe Illustrator, MS Publisher, MS Word, etc. I use MS Publisher 2002 & it works just fine.

Photopaper and interesting textured fiber cardstock make great inserts, the more weight a paper has the less it will curl from humidity. You could arrange the sheet of paper to get the maximum inserts and cut them apart as a stack with a paper cutter, or cut each sheet apart with an exacto knife and a straight edge. Some printer inks bleed when they get wet,so you might also want to spray the papers with a fixative after you print them. Andrea http://www.andrearogers.com

We've had very good results with Neato products too, and use their software in association with Corel Xara, etc. May browse their site for more info & prices: http://www.neato.com Good luck Doc.
