Well,

I regard Soundclick.com as one of my favourite websites - for many, many reasons... Still, there seems to be one bug (already discussed here several times) that allows people to vote 'hot' or 'flop' for a song as often as they please and most easily manipulate the so-called charts there...

Of course, I know that noone will become famous just by having dozens of No.1 hits on Soundclick, but to me all the voting, streaming, downloading and charts stuff (in short: the statistics) seem like a wonderful and exciting game - so to say, 'as if' you were in the real charts - and should stay an honest game...

Now, I'm concerned about the votings as there's a group of jealous guys here in town who try to destroy anything I do. They already ruined several guestbooks on my websites (fortunately I could delete their entries) - and, by that, keep me from making e.g. my Soundclick page too public, because I'm in fear of losing all that charts 'thrill' and find all of my songs at the very bottom of the chart tables with 14.378.920 negativ votes each...

Okay, the problem is clear and rather an old one, but does anyone see a solution - maybe by adressing Soundclick directly? Or can I do anything myself?

The FAQ says 'You can vote once a day for any song. If you vote more than once, you will get a reminder note' but I've no idea if that's the case.

Does anyone know the formula they use? It would be good to know if my song is actually at #15 on merit or because the 3 people I emailed it to listened to it.

As far as I understand it Soundclick only recognises 1 vote per day from a unique individual for a song, just as it doesn't matter how many times you stream a song in one day, only 1 play for each unique user will count towards your chart position.

So I needn't worry if I were you. Though if there were seven people out to get you who each have a computer each, they could each vote once negatively against you for every song of yours every day. But they'd have to be pretty committed to your downfall to commit that much energy to doing that without getting bored very quickly.

You don't know those freaks...

Hmm, I've also read the corresponding place on the FAQ page. However, I do not get any reminder message if I have voted more than once - maybe only the latest vote counts, who knows. I remember getting such messages, years ago when I made my first SC experiences, but the site has been down IIRC, and now this message doesn't appear any longer.

Another change(? or did I just not notice it before?) seems to be that you have to be a registred member if you wanna vote. On the one hand, a good thing to make it a bit more complicated for people like I have mentioned to click you down the charts, on the other hand, not so good, if you have a couple of honest friends, whom you tell about your songs and aks them to give their votes, but they won't be able to as long as they haven't registred and uploaded a song... In the end, it seems to be about SC getting more&more members. Let's begrudge it to them - they're doing good/important work!

Thomas

BTW, what about uploading a very, very bad song and trying to push it to No.1 (by one person) - just to see if it's technically possible? (and retiring it from the charts as soon as it has reached the top)

Hmm...

Yesterday I gave it a try and streamed my band radio twice (standard mp3 player, not the Soundclick Player) to see whether it will count as two plays each. The following day I'd check if each song has at least two 'plays' in the stats - as there have been a lot of songs with no play for days... The result, however, was that all my songs had something between 15 and 22 plays - and there were only 22 page hits (but all in all 145 song plays). Two days before, I had 65 page hits (that must have been RMMS, thanks!) but only 32 song plays...

Well, maybe it wasn't me who caused the '15 plays' but maybe someone else who streamed the band radio repeatedly all day...

To those who think I take all the charts stuff too important: The thing is that I really wanna know if you can manipulate the Soundclick charts that easy, for the one reason that I don't want my personal 'enemies' (enviers) to ruin my 'Soundclick career', but for the much more important reason that - if you CANNOT manipulate the charts - I would do anything for pushing my songs up to the top, as I'd regard it legitimate then and could expect most other Soundclick users to do the same...

So long...

The stats page would list every single stream of your songs, but it does state at the top of the page:

'Note: all numbers for songs here are total plays/downloads and may differ from unique plays/downloads. The charts are compiled by counting unique streams only.'
