Can anyone recommend a software package for the following?:
I want to be able to specify a rhythm style and progressions and get decent backing/practice tracks out of it. Being able to edit the tracks created would be a secondary benefit, being able to create yur own more individual tracks (eg as a writing tool) would be a further benefit (bit not essential).
I have seen 'Band in a Box' in action but found it all very cheesy sounding - I'd rather just be able to create really solid rhythm/bass arrangements.
Additionally I know some of the current multitrackers can create/edit patterns too - I would also consider that - any recommendations / resources I can go look up?
Many thanks,

FruityLoops? Might not be your thing, but I think that if played with, it can be used for pretty much anything. It's just the defaults that are biased towards 'dance' music; most music is based on repetition!

Try 'Reason'it's more expensive than'Fruity Loops'but it's a lot more flexible.Apart from alll the sample/wave based stuff in there you can also write 'MIDI'patterns using the superb internal synths. It's also very easy to use. #
