Does anyone know whether, 'The Lark Ascending,' was composed entirely by Ralph Vaughan Williams or if it encorporates themes from folk music? I am thinking chiefly of the the tuneful theme that starts around the middle when I ask this.

I'm sure this tune is not a traditional folk melody, although the rural spirit does shine through. Regards, Ian Lawson

Would that be 'cowpat' or 'cowpatch'?

No mention of it being a traditional folk tune in any of the CD liners I have seen, nor in Ursula Vaughan William's biography 'RVW' (although that book was more about the man than the music). It's an archetypal English tune and it *should* have been a folk song. Regards John Davies
