Not Chopin, surely?

Try the one by Ferdinand Hiller on vol. 1 (I think) of Michael Ponti's Vox series.

Voluptuous Rakhmaninov all the way, played by the same-any of the first three. Four is in another category ( but I love it). Chopin is more firy than romantic. Beethoven romantic? I'll chew on that one awhile.

I'd call the Beethoven Fourth Concerto romantic, without any hesitation. The stylistic influence on the Chopin Piano Concertos is obvious!

Of the five, it comes the closest. Actually, I find places within Mozart's concertos very romantic indeed.

And, to mention one more, the Brahms Second Concerto has portions in it that drip with nectar.

For me, it's Rachmaninoff three all the way... I love his other concerti- no.2 and the Rhapsody are pretty close, but they don't touch the third. And the Chopin are beautiful... but they don't do as much for me. While we're on the subject of concerti, there's a great one written in 1997 by the Australian Carl Vine, which could sort of be described as neo-romantic but it sparkles with Vine's own particular (fascinating) style. I love this piece... it's actually catching up to the Rach 3 and the Ravel concerti in my list of favourites. ~Rbgirl~ 'You think life is hard, try learning Gaspard de la Nuit!'
