I just wanted to get fellow songwriters' opinions on their favorite bridge from a song. A few that come to mine is Nirvana's 'On a Plain.' 'somewhere i have heard this before/in a dream my memory has stored/in defense i am neutered and spayed/what the hell am i trying to say?' Mostly I just like the story behind the lyrics 'cos Cobain thought he was ripping the melody off. Anyway, the whole song is a song about writing a song. I am sure there are better bridges out there. Or maybe another question, who is your favorite band that never uses a bridge. Mine is a local band Moon Mission Death Squad. They are a local band (OKC), and I've listened to every single song and there are no bridges are guitar solos. Anyway, if you want to check out there music go to www.moonmissiondeathsquad.net I think they got some songs on there. The best ones are Eleanor Roosevelt, Indiana and the first song off their first album. Can't wait to hear from you guys. 'No longer will I wear the paper crown. No longer will I let you drag me down.' from the song Sacred Heart on bryan mangieri's album 'Seahorse Blues.'

I'd say 'Bridge over troubled water' for sure.

A song that I sincerely admire for it's incredible composition is 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by Queen (the late Freddy Mercury). I'm mostly impressed with it because it is a 6 minute song that doesn't repeat one bridge, chorus or verse more than a couple times. It keeps moving, keeps you interested and even though it encompasses many styles, they all flow together beautifully. I hope to one day be capable of writing a song like that. Then there is the issue of singing it.......ugh!

I'd have to say Eleanor Rigby. So simple, but gets me. Although, is it technically a bridge since you get a taste at the beginning?

Also, Kiss Of from Violent Femmes has a great bridge ('I take one, one, one cause you left me and two, two, two for my family, and three...etc) . Ben Folds writes some great bridges... now so many others are coming to mind. Bridges ROCK!

Current bridge stuck in my head is from Hey Ya by Outkast. 'now all you ladies (yeah?), don't make me break this thing down for nothin', i want to see ya'll on your badest behavior, give me some sugar, i am your neighbor! Shake it, shake it, shake it like a poloroid picture...'.

Ummm....I don't know....George Strait sang about the Brooklyn Bridge in Ocean Front Property. Simon and Garfunkel sang about 59th but they ain't country. We all know, if it ain't country, it don't count.
